The Brain Bee is an international neuroscience competition for high schoolers everywhere. In the United States, the competition begins at the state level. In states with a large number of competitors, there may be a local competition before the state level. (For more information on the specifics of your competition, visit your state's website). Many of the state competitions vary in the specific tasks but they all focus on topics from the brain facts book. The top competitor from each state (more populous states such as California send more than one) then advances to the national competition. The National Brain Bee used to be held solely in Washington D.C. Starting with the 2019 Brain Bee, the competition will be traveling to different universities every year. The National Brain Bee has an written neuroscience quiz, an neuroanatomy practical, an MRI, neurohistology section, and finally an oral quiz. The winner of this competition will then move on to the International Brain Bee.
